Gesa Credit Union Gives Back

Gesa Credit Union is proud to support Hoopfest on the most perfect summer day and in the middle of a global pandemic. Our shared values are especially important during times like these:

Investment in Community

Since it began in 1990, Hoopfest has invested millions of dollars in the community through Special Olympics, youth basketball, senior basketball, school partnerships, and more. Gesa’s commitment to the community through sponsorships, givebacks, and volunteer time has been a priority since it was founded in 1953. Most recently the credit union’s COVID-19 response included donations of more than $100,000 to organizations and essential workers on the front lines, and those contributions continue. As events are postponed or canceled altogether, Gesa’s support for community organizations and community members remains strong.

With the switch to a virtual event, Hoopfest became even more accessible. Participants are able to save on travel costs and hotel rooms, but still play basketball. People of all abilities and experience levels can participate, and you don’t even have to put a team together. Gesa is proud to be an accessible, member-owned not-for-profit organization. Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the State of Washington is eligible to join. Close relatives of someone who qualifies as a member and residents of select counties in Oregon and Idaho are also eligible.

Commitment to Youth

Hoopfest runs Spokane AAU for 3rd to 8th graders, hosts multiple tournaments, and manages the Ignite Basketball League, an outreach program for middle schoolers that focuses on character-building and recreation. Gesa’s student-run High School Credit Unions provide real-life financial industry experience to high school students while enabling the school’s student body to learn money management skills. This program leads to work experience, resume building, and even job opportunities.

In these challenging and uncertain times, Hoopfest and Gesa Credit Union continue to prioritize community involvement and collaboration rooted in our shared values. Join us!
