AGE GROUPS & DIVISIONS

The Spokane AAU League for the 2022-2023 season will ‘Grandfather’ the current 5th and 6th grade boys (who participated in the 2021-2022 league) into the upcoming AAU League Season.

In addition, any/all 7th & 8th grade boys and girls teams are eligible to participate in the upcoming league season.

Teams will be registered strictly on the basis of their grade in school for the school year, as of September. Any questions regarding grade level will be verified with the school listed by individual players. Any player that is in a lower grade level may play up a grade level.

AAU CARDS

Each player and coach, including assistant coaches and the team contact (if he or she is also participating as a coach), is required to have a current AAU card to be involved in the league. This is a membership card that also provides supplemental liability and medical insurance during AAU-sanctioned events and activities. AAU card numbers are required on each team’s league and tournament rosters and the cost for the cards is separate from your team’s registration fee. You must provide a copy of those cards in your registration packet in order for it to be complete. Parents and coaches should also keep copies of the cards for their records.

AAU cards are available. You may purchase them online by clicking the button below.

Cards are not available for purchase in the league office. Cards may be purchased online through the National AAU website. AAU does not issue cards until the end of August prior to each league season.

For those who are purchasing multi-year AAU cards, you will be responsible to retain a copy of the AAU card and give it to the coach so that it can be remitted along with a registration packet each year until the card expires.

HIGHLIGHTS

In addition to our 12-game season, Spokane AAU will feature three additional events that add to the overall experience for each of our athletes. Whether it’s the culmination of six seasons in our program with the 8th Grade Boys and Girls All-Star Games or our free throw and three-point contest for players to show off their clutch shooting skills, Spokane AAU offers a season full of games, competitions and festivities.

8th Grade All-Star Game

The 8th Annual Spokane AAU All-Star Game will occur on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at West Valley High School. Our 8th-grade players will use the regular season to perfect their skills, with a select few having the opportunity to battle it out on the court!

Within Spokane AAU, every 8th coach nominates two players from their team and two players from the other 8th grade teams who they believed performed exceptionally during the season. The players with the most nominations are chosen, and the teams are formed for what have become some of the biggest games in January each season.

Nominations for the All-Star Game must be remitted no later than Monday, January 16th to giff@spokanehoopfest.net.

We want to provide our athletes with another opportunity to play and be celebrated. This is what our All-star game accomplishes for our league.

Rosters will be posted the Monday prior to the games.

Hot Shot Competition
(REVISED 1/24/2022)

The Hot Shot Competition is a great way for athletes to test their shooting skills against others. We offer both a free throw and a 3-point contest. Each team can qualify one free throw shooter and one 3-point shooter (they cannot be the same athlete). This is FREE for the athletes and gives a chance for every team to be represented in a fun competition. The Free Throw and 3-Point Hot Shot Competitions are always packed with young athletes with the ability to shoot the lights out!

The names of each team’s two representatives must be submitted no later than Monday, January 24th to giff@spokanehoopfest.net.

Round 1 will take place on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at West Valley High School with the Final Round taking place on February 19, 2023. For additional information regarding rules and times, download a copy of the 2023 Hot Shot Information form.

Championship Weekend

Championship Weekend will be held on February 18-19, 2023! Save the dates and help us celebrate our 32nd Anniversary and the teams that competed all season for a chance to participate in this exciting weekend.

Join us on Championship Weekend to support Spokane AAU teams as they compete for a championship title. The 3rd and 4th place teams in each age group and division play on Saturday, and the 1st and 2nd place seeds compete on Sunday. These teams have put in countless hours of hard work and practice to prepare for what is set to be the biggest weekend of their season.

On Championship Sunday,  the finalists from each grade level that competed in Round 1 of our Hot Shot Competition will have an opportunity to win it all during the half time games of their respective grades. Four competitors will have advance from both the free throw and three point challenges to show us their skills during Championship Weekend.

JERSEYS

Each team is responsible for its own uniforms. Uniform types may be either a reversible jersey or two separate jerseys. Regardless of type, there must be one white (home) and one dark colored (away) jersey for each game. Numbers must be on both the front of the jersey (minimum 4” tall) as well as the back of the jersey (minimum 6” tall), and must be centered vertically as well as horizontally. The numerals 6, 7, 8 and 9 are illegal and cannot be used alone or in any combination. The officials must be able to signal the jersey number with one hand.

The following series of numbers can be used:
  •  0-5
  • 10-15
  • 20-25
  • 30-35
  • 40-45
  • 50-55

MANDATORY COACHES MEETING

The entire coaching staff (head coach and maximum of two assistants) for each team will be required to sign-off after attending the meeting. Only the head coach will be able to pick up the team’s packet – picture i.d. will be required.

Meeting date TBD

If the head coach and assistant coaches do not attend one of the scheduled meetings, they will NOT be eligible to coach in the league during the upcoming season.
